Classroom Management and Community Strategies

Give Empathy: I believe that all students are equal, and as a result are unique and equally special. I also believe that all students come with emotions and expectations that can be easily disturbed while in school. Therefore, I believe it is important to acknowledge and give empathy to students' emotions before talking about correcting their behavior or the situation.

Welcoming Classroom: The classroom environment is one factor in helping create a positive atmosphere, one where learning is encouraged. Therefore, an organized, welcoming, and home-like classroom environment is important in creating a place where students feel both inspired and comfortable enough to learn.

Table Groups:  Forming and maintaining relationships is a part of life and work. Therefore, I have the students sit in table groups in order to teach them how to work, learn, and solve conflict while in community. Some of my lessons focus on group work within these table communities and teaching strategies for how to work best as a community.

Engaging and Appropriate Content:  I believe that positive classroom experiences are also influenced by the content you teach in the classroom. Therefore, I am always trying to improve the content of my lessons so they are developmentally appropriate, as well as engaging my students' interests and learning styles.

Verbal Cues of Positive Behavior:  I believe that it is important to focus on the positive behaviors students are showcasing rather than the negative behaviors. Therefore, I will often give verbal cues or encouragement for positive behaviors students are exhibiting, rather than pointing out students' negative behaviors.
