Teaching Perspective

Goals and Principles:

The classroom community has a direct impact on a student's ability to learn, grow, and have positive experiences at school. Therefore, it is important to create a positive, encouraging, and accepting classroom community in order to create an environment where students feel at home and able to thrive.

I not only strive to create a positive classroom community, but also a positive discipline system, which focuses on the positive things students are doing rather than the negative. I am also guided by the belief that conflict and misbehavior in students is a teaching opportunity, a chance for students to grow.

My Christian faith has also had a profound affect on the way I view classroom management. I see all students as unique individuals made by God for a reason. This has led me to believe in the importance of each student's individual thoughts and emotions. Therefore, before giving consequences to a student I make sure to hear their perspective, while also giving them empathy for their situation.
